A couple years ago, I had a family portrait client elect to have me meet them at a park near their home. Not only did they already have a stockpile of memories made during visits to that park over the years, but now every time they look at the photos captured that day, they can’t help but remember the sight and sound of their children literally swinging through the trees (after they were given the okay to get dirty, of course). So you see; the images I created that day aren’t just pieces of paper, they are audible memories in a sense.

I don’t like studio photography.
Oops, did I type that out loud?! Is there anything wrong with studio portraits? Absolutely not! I take studio style portraits “all the time,” especially for my newborn clients. When it comes down to it though, I much prefer getting out of doors. Take the photos in this post. Is the location super special…probably not? Unless you know that the children are sitting on the lawn of their future home. Their parents have worked hard to buy that land. Nearly every weekend of the spring, summer, and fall the whole family is there working to maintain and improve the property. What happens when the work doesn’t allow for small hands to help? Well, on hot days, the sprinkler often comes out. On cool autumn days and wet spring days, there’s always Tonka trucks and shovels for excavating in the gravel pile. That simple enough looking yard is the place where these kids are spending much of their childhood learning what it is work hard, as well as play hard. Years down the road when they look at the photos, they’ll know they were sitting in their yard, under their tree, where they’ve shared many a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, as well as many sibling arguments. As for their parents, every time they look at the photos, they’ll see their precious children sitting on the ground they worked so hard to provide them. So, maybe it is a super special location after all. This little guy is the third child in his family. With both an older brother and sister, he has tipped the scales in favor of the boys. It may be too early to tell who will be the most dominant among the children, but there is no denying he is making a strong fight for a piece of everyone’s hearts.
Take at a look at this sweet six days new baby boy. I particularly like his big head of hair, so long it tickles his ears already. I had the great honor of being asked to document the Miles for Missions 5K in Shinnston West Virginia again this year. Proceeds from this year’s race will benefit Scott’s Run Settlement House. Modern Woodmen of America was again the major sponsor of the race matching the funds with a donation. The day was kicked off when West Virginia native, Carl Hatfield fired the opening shot at the starting line. If you’ve ever had the opportunity to meet Carl, you know his passion for running and community. Highlights of the contribution he has made to the running community include being the founder of the West Virginia Track Club and the Greater Clarksburg 10K, but that is nothing compared to his running resume. He is a two time all American champion and has participated in the Olympic trials six times. Needless to say he knows his way around a race and is ready to share all his experience gained knowledge to any ear that will listen. You might say he is the real McCoy. Shortly after the last 5K participant crossed the finish line, a new addition to the day, the children’s Mission Mile race set off. Astoundingly, there were multiple youngsters running this one mile race after first running in the 5K race. Now that is what I call stamina and endurance! A big favorite with the smallest racers, the Kids K (an untimed race), ended the racing portion of the day. Awards were given out for top overall male and female, top three male/female categorized by age, and top three in the parent-stroller category. Warm and sunny with a stiff breeze, it was a great day for a race. Congratulations to all who participated in the event. I hope you enjoy the photographic highlights. “A Lee” Reminder! And Happy Holidays! Family Portrait Photography by A Lee Photography in Fairmont, WV It’s fall! The leaves have been changing colors and pumpkin themed items everywhere. I even heard an ad on the radio for pumpkin facials and manicures. While I love pumpkin I’m not the pumpkin facial type. So what type am I? The type that wants to know why you haven’t booked your family photo yet?!
Fall is generally considered the busiest time of the year for family portrait photographers. Just thinking about all the beautiful outdoor scenery, warm sweaters, boots, and hats gives me the itch to grab any family I see at the park for an impromptu session. So if you haven’t yet, get that family photo done this fall! Just think, doing so will mean the hardest part of your holiday greeting cards will be done. Gracious knows we can all use a reduction in holiday stress. Here’s to hearing from you! Amber ALee Photography - Custom Newborn Photography - Morgantown - West Virginia There's a new man in town and his name is Perry!
What a delight it was to be able to capture this sweet little man in his home. Such a cooperative model and such a joy to spend time with. I could hardly wait to get home and look at all the photographs. I'm still working on sprinkling the magic on the images, but check out the sneak peek I put together for the family below. If you think this fella is sweet...you should meet him. He certainly stole a piece of my heart. ALee Photography - Child Portraiture - Fairmont, WV What should you do when life hands you a hot summer? Put your favorite rocking chair in the shade of a big tree, sit down, lean back, and let the breeze roll in. This little girl certainly knows how to handle the heat of a summer afternoon and was not about to let it get her down. All smiles and chuckles, she was a fantastic little model. While I have been crazy busy with summer activities, I have also been spending some much needed time honing my craft, flexing my creative skills, learning new photography techniques, and just making myself a better photographer. For an overview, take a look below. Cascade Waterfalls, Giles County, Virginia, USA --- This enchanting cascade can be found at the end of a short hike (Cascades National Scenic Trail). There is an upper and a lower trail to reach the falls, while both are beautiful and follow the Little Stony Creek, the lower trail is more charming in my opinion.---http://virginiasmtnplayground.com/cascades/ |
